The Pen digitizes what you write on special paper and saves a resolution independent graphic. I’ve been using it for about a week now, and since the release of their OSX version of the software, it is fitting in nicely into my workflow. Whether it’s Mind Maps, doodles, or straight up notes, the Pulse Pen is working well with me. It’s funny, in this day and age of digital this and digital that, the Pen is still mightier than the sword. Yeah, I know, totally cheesy. :)

We picked up a book by Kent Williams, and I found it so inspiring, so I had to sketch a bit. Here is the result after a bit of that inspiration. Not sure what to make of it, but it is going to be the foundation for a series of portraits I have planned.

I awoke to the strange sensations again. The silence of yesterday was gone and was replaced with the weight of something foreign and alive. I had remembered telling her the story at least five times the night before, never once convincing her of it's truth.

When I think about it this morning, I find it rather odd myself. How often do we experience the unknown in our lives with such a force that when we doubt it, it only gets stronger. She told me to talk with my doctor at length about the things I was experiencing, and well, I told her I would. I think she was doing her best to humor me.

So here I lay, in the morning, strapped beneath my warm sheets, curled up like a small child lost in the wild, wondering if this woman sleeping next to me will believe me when she awakens to finally see them, standing before us.

The day had been rather strange to say the least. When she awoke and saw them standing there, she didn't seem to mind.

"So, what is this? Are you going out of your way to convince me?" she asked, as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
"What do you mean? I told you they were real at least five times last night," I replied.
She sat up at looked at me with a curiosity I had not seen before.
"Ok, I get it. They are real. But couldn't you have asked them to come later. I don't really like being seen before I've had an opportunity to make myself presentable."
I leaned up and supported myself on my forearm.
"I can't control them. They just show up whenever they like."
She slid back beneath the covers.
"Fine, but could you at least ask them to stop staring at me that way. It really creeps me out."
"I'll do my best," I said, and closed my eyes.

It was always easier talking to them with my mind.

I found this out several months later, and it just reenforced why I felt the way I did about her. She had this gentle way of possessing me and accepting my faults in way that was, dare I say, regal. Nothing seemed to bother her. Not the annoying way I went on and on about things when I encountered something ridiculous. Not the way I always craved perfection in my soups at various Phô restaurants across the country. Not the way I inevitably complained when I was ignored in a shop while looking for the perfect pair of shoes. It’s not that she would let me get away with anything I wanted, it was just that she didn’t let these little idiosyncrasies get to her. She just let them flow by her...as if knowing the full spectrum of what I was capable of, and how I needed these little faults to roughen up my edges and have something to polish in my character.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I have many other things that bother me about myself, but what good would it be to tell you all of these things at this point in time. I have to keep a hold of my delusions. They are the parts of my being which allow me to do the things I do these days.

Come thee old gentle night, blanketed in the blackness of a day never ending, the sun shining no more, for the winter has taken the soul of man and left it frozen in a mammoth haze of battery. I open my eyes upon this world, it’s dreary dream gone in a flash as the whiteness of purity escapes and coats the world in a milky embrace of possibility...

It has been a while since I’ve read anything by him, but for some reason, today, it felt correct to be in this head space. Anyway, the following little piece was the result of a brief interchange of conversation I had with my fiance and an ex-colleague.

Here is the little bit for what it is:

In a mood to feel the death of normalcy, the slowly burning embers of time being destroyed and laid to rest as moments of nothingness. These times, these eyes see through a burning mind focused on the possibilities of chance and uncertainty. We embrace these times from time to time, as we regain our focus. Moving beyond our limits. Moving toward a finality that is uniquely our own. We can go on. We can move up and out. We need but try. A first step. Yes. The biggest one we can make. Today, tomorrow, always. This we must never forget.
